Acordeon Sydney Inc. (ACO) was founded in 1974 by John Painter, a violinist and cellist who sought to create an orchestra of professional quality. In 1990 as its new president, Artistic Director Richard Tognetti began building the orchestra into a nationally recognized orchestra and by 2000 it developed into one of the most prolific performance arts companies in Australia. Today ACO is committed to creativity and innovation, whether it's performing for crowds all over the world or bringing cutting-edge international music to audiences in Sydney or Wollongong. In 2007 Acordeon Sydney Inc.'s Chief Violinist Helena Rathbone created its Collective program, which aims to provide excellent orchestral performances for people in towns that are outside of the major metropolitan hubs.
